Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Michael Nsikak Umoh, known to many as Padre Mike, is a Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Lagos. Born in Lagos in 1968, he was ordained on 13 December 1992. He holds a PhD in Media and Communication Studies from the Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA), Port Harcourt, and was certified by the U.S. Government as a media literacy expert in 2012.
In Lagos he served as Parish Priest of several parishes and as Administrator of Holy Cross Cathedral, and founded the archdiocese's Center for Media Development. He was the pioneer Secretary General of SIGNIS-Nigeria, the Catholic association for communication, and is a member of World Catholic Radio and an associate member of EWTN.
In September 2020 he became National Director of Social Communications at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria in Abuja. There he founded the Nigeria Catholic Network and, from 2022, the annual Nigeria Catholic Communications Week (ComWEEK), which takes media literacy into parishes, seminaries, convents and Catholic institutions across the country. The Vatican's Dicastery for Communication has commended ComWEEK. In May 2026, closing its fifth edition, he announced that he would step down after six years in the role.
His writing and preaching return to a few themes: truthful, responsible communication; the Church's place in public life without partisanship; the dignity of every person in the face of violence; and the use of new media, including artificial intelligence, for evangelisation.
